FOG: contemporary sculpture exhibition in the park of Panemunė Castle

29/05/2025 – 17/08/2025

On May 29, the contemporary sculpture exhibition Fog opened in the park of Panemunė Castle. The exhibition features works by eight Lithuanian artists: Danas Aleksa, Nerijus Erminas, Jonas Gelčys, Matas Janušonis, Algis Kasparavičius, Algimantas Kensminas, Tauras Kensminas ir Rytis Urbanskas.

I close my eyes. I open them again. A heaviness presses down on my entire body, as if the air itself has thickened. My clothes cling to my skin, pulling me downward. The weight pools in my legs. I remember standing on a hill just moments ago, wandering through the castle’s halls—and now, everything is gray. I’m surrounded by a damp, dense fog. In the distance, I barely notice a human face. As I approach, I realize it’s my own. Yet this version of me is somehow strange, as if he lived thousands of years ago. I no longer know what time it is. It feels as though I can see the past in the present, and the present in the past. I see my great-grandfather carving a wooden boat. I smell the scent of fresh wood shavings. Somewhere far off, I hear the fading roar of machine engines. I also see strange archaeological artifacts—the kind I once saw in Solaris. And then I realize: the anxiety that gripped my body begins to ease. I crawl into a wooden shelter. I should feel safe here.

The exhibition Fog has been organized by the Vilnius Academy of Arts Panemunė Castle in collaboration with the Sculpture and Stained Glass Centre of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association.
